Born in Naples in 1935 to a family of jewelers, Aldo Cipullo became the iconic jewelry designer who defined the glamour of the 1970s and early ’80s. After moving to New York City, Cipullo honed his craft with prestigious houses like David Webb and Tiffany & Co., developing his bold and innovative design language. At Cartier, he revolutionized jewelry with the Love bracelet in 1969, a timeless symbol of commitment, followed by the edgy Nail collection in 1971, inspired by the raw energy of New York. Striking out on his own in 1974, Cipullo continued to craft provocative designs, including his dollar sign pieces and creations featuring American gemstones now housed in the Smithsonian Institution. Though his life was tragically cut short in 1984, his designs endure as timeless icons of style and innovation. Cipullo: Making Jewelry Modern by Assouline is a stunning tribute to his legacy, featuring intimate family photos, personal anecdotes, and images of his most groundbreaking creations, encapsulating his profound impact on the world of modern jewelry.
