In Saint Germain, a neighbourhood brimming with the artistic and cultural ebullience of 1960s Paris, a creative adventure was born. Three multitalented aesthetes — Yves Coueslant, Christiane Montadre-Gautrot and Desmond Knox-Leet — were united by their travel-fueled imaginations, their fascination with great civilisations and their shared appreciation of beauty. Together, driven by boundless curiosity and with the freedom to explore it, they founded Diptyque. Creator of perfumes for the self and the home, scented skincare products and decorative objects, Maison Diptyque tells stories that set the imagination free. Each creation is, in itself, a mini world, a fragrant journey with some familiar paths and others that nourish inspiration and cultivate wonder. Diptyque extends a poetic invitation to step inside this world of bounty. Here, letters dance. A simple sketch brings an entire landscape to life. Emerging from the interplay of fragrance and image, it is a place between reverie and reality, between the intimate and the universal. Here, the imagination, liberated, may roam.

An exceptional artisanal creation, your Diptyque candle deserves the utmost care. Here are a few tips to help optimise its lifespan, enjoy it safely, and refill it.
Prepare your space:
  • Place your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
  • Protect delicate materials such as wood or marble with a stand or tray.
  • Keep candles away from flammable materials.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Light the candle:
  • We recommend lighting your candle with a match to avoid any risk of burning yourself.
  • During the first burn, make sure to let the candle burn until a uniform pool of melted wax has formed (about 4 hours, depending on the scent). This prevents the wax from tunnelling and allows the wick to absorb the wax properly, ensuring an even burn thereafter. Wicks may produce a small amount of smoke when first lit.
While burning:
  • Do not burn the candle for more than 4 hours at a time after the first burn.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Do not move a burning or unlit hot candle.
  • Keep it away from the draft.
  • Leave at least 10 cm (4 inches) between two candles.
After each use::
  • Snuff out the flame: use a snuffer to avoid splashing hot wax.
  • Re-center the wick once the candle is out.
  • Before relighting your candle, use a wick trimmer to trim the wick (ideal length: 3 to 5 mm) to avoid the risk of fire.
Final note:
  • Stop using your candle once there is only 5 mm of wax left or the metal wick sustainer base becomes visible.
After care & storage:
  • We recommend airing out the room after burning a candle.
  • Allow the wax to cool completely before moving your candle.
  • Store it in a dry, temperate place (15 °C–25 °C / 59 °F–77 °F), away from direct sunlight to avoid discoloration, pigmentation or dislodgement of the wax.
Refilling the candle:
  • When the wax level reaches approximately 5 mm, or when the metal base supporting the wick is visible, the candle is finished.
  • Once the wax has cooled, place the candle in a bowl of water at 60 °C/140 °F, halfway up the glass. Wait two minutes for the wax to soften.
  • Remove the wax from the water using a round-tipped knife. Slide the blade between the glass and the edges of the softened wax disk, then slip the knife underneath. Lift the loosened wax disk and dispose of it in the trash.
  • Wash and dry the inside of the glass.
  • Remove the refill from its container.
  • Remove the lid, turn the refill upside down, and firmly tap the bottom of the container once or twice, while protecting the wax surface, to gently release the wax block.
  • Place the wax block into the glass.
Your candle is now ready to be used.
